Changes from the DGT on carrying spare bulbs

Changes from the DGT on carrying spare bulbs in your car..

Under the changes from the Departamento General de Trafico (DGT) you are no longer under any obligation to carry spare headlight bulbs.

The DGT has finally agreed that it’s now too complicated to replace car headlight bulbs at the roadside. Modern designs like the Smart Car would need the complete nose cone to be removed just to replace the headlight bulbs. Drivers are carrying replacement bulbs to comply with the law and yet unable to carry out quick the repairs the law aims to promote.

However this change was announced a year ago! Pere Navarro, the DGT director, apologised to the drivers who have been fined over the last year, since the DGT announced the fines would be waived at the beginning of 2009. He said the 1998 rules relating to carry bulbs will be removed by ministerial order and that the Trafico Guardia will not impose these fines while the legislation is being amended.

The DGT have been collecting over two million Euros in fines from drivers not carrying spare bulbs every year.
