NEW regulations from the Abanilla City Council for the protection and promotion of date palm.
Ordinance for the Protection and Promotion of date palm (Phoenix dactylifera)
Abanilla City Council has established regulations for the protection and promotion of date palm, in order to ensure continuity, promote its cultivation and utilization of their fruits and avoid the spread of pests.
The new regulations:
Palm-transplantation.
Only permitted where it is desirable for justifiable reasons.
Palm-Tala.
Only the palm trees can be cut dry or those with a risk of falling, will allow the logging of those palm trees that are affected by the red palm weevil. For each tree being cut will require the planting of another on the same plot with 1m (minimum) trunk length, and must meet the requirements in the field of plant passport.
Planting palm trees other than the date palm.
The planting of new species of palm (Livistona, Canary Island, Washington, excelsa palm ...) must have the corresponding plant passport ensuring that has been produced and sold by a nursery in order to prevent the spread of pests.
Hooded palm.
This activity is often performed to obtain the white palm on Palm Sunday of Easter. In this regard:
* It is strictly forbidden bound and hooded female palms.
* Prohibited hooding those showing signs of weakening.
* The bound and male palm encaperuzado be made with certain restrictions on the number of palm trees in the plot have (Up to 20% of total).
The owners of the palm trees are required to:
- Report the presence of a pest.
- Ask each time license to the City Council to try to make any of the above activities.
- Communicate the change in ownership.
- Report the presence of a new palm.
- Allow and facilitate inspection of the palm by the Technical Council.
Failure to comply with the new regulations:
The fine amount for minor offences will be 300 €.
The fine amount for minor offences will be € 1,000.
