Abanilla still conserves its narrow mediaeval streets & nobleman's mansions and, as such there is no better way to discover its historic past than enjoying a stroll around Abanilla. Local specialities include char-grilled meat, in particular lamb, rice with rabbit and snails, home-made sausages "gachasmigas" and "tortilleras", both typical rainy day food.
Mike Francis every Sunday 3pm to 5pm
Some in Spain call it siesta time, but between 3pm & 5pm is when Mike Francis comes alive on JFM Radio. Mike produces two shows, the first hour of music is the best from Motown, Northern soul and classic soul, the last hour is Mike's Rock "n" Roll party, playing great music from the early 50's to early 60's and beyond, both shows are full of bits of information you never new!
Popular local Abanilla bassed DJ Mike Francis has been behind the microphone for over 30 years, and has worked with star's like Edwin Starr, The Real Thing, Heatwave, Bucks Fizz, as well as Radio 1 DJ's Steve Wright and Peter Powell to name but a few.
Being somewhat of an "anorak" about music Mike presents a fortnightly "Pop Quiz" nights in La Romana, Los Gabrielles and Banos de Fortuna. Mike bought his first 45rpm single at the age of fourteen, and has not stopped collecting records since.
The Mike Francis show is the biggest things on JFM Radio Abanilla between 3pm and 5pm every Sunday. As Mike would say “Its all about the music”
